The year in review...

Dear Friends,

This month, I’d like to say I’ll be going to a ritzy chalet in Aspen or attending back-to-back fabulous holiday parties, but most likely I’ll be curled up in my favorite chair in front of the fireplace reading a good book.

As I look back on the last year, I’m amazed and forever grateful for your kindness and positive feedback. Your e-mails and tweets mean so much to me. Thanks to you, my books are now sold worldwide and this California girl couldn’t be happier.

2012 was a busy year! In January, Home Ice was released, closely followed by Submersed. February turned out to be a big month for Home Ice as The Little Book That Could climbed its way into the Top 50 in Contemporary Romance at Amazon! I was chosen as the Polka Dot Banner’s featured author of the month and then my erotic short story Watch Me was released.

This summer, the Olympics kept us all entertained with plenty of eye candy (thank you, Ryan Lochte!) and in August I started selling my books in India.

These last few months of fall, the NHL lockout has affected hockey fans everywhere and I have sorely missed my main inspiration. Thanks to the wonderful community on Pinterest I can still get my hockey fix and trade "Stop the Lockout!" pins with fellow pinners.

As for next year...I’m excited to announce that my books will be sold in the U.K. for NOOK at Barnes & Noble...I’m hoping to have my titles available on Smashwords...and I plan on releasing my next hockey-themed romance (fingers crossed) in early 2013. (Phew! I'd better get busy!)

None of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for you and your continued support. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

So, let’s raise our glasses to those we’ve lost this year, the family and friends we’ve gained and the memories we made.

Wherever you are in your corner of the world, Happy Holidays and may you find everything under the tree you were hoping for.

Cheers,

Let Go

I had a revelation today that I just had to share with you...

First off, let me begin by saying I've been a big fan of the band Safetysuit for years. Their debut album Life Left to Go is absolutely wonderful and would make a great soundtrack for a book and/or movie. This year, their second album These Times was released and, once again, the band continues to amaze and inspire me.

So, back to my revelation. This morning, I was listening to my iPod (set on shuffle) and Safetysuit's song Let Go started playing. I know I've heard the song before, but for some reason the lyrics grabbed my attention today and I realized it could be the theme song for my novel Home Ice. Learning how to let go was a main theme in the book and I find it funny that I heard the song long after I wrote the book.

Anyway, I've included the video below so you can take a listen. If you find yourself inspired by their music, Here is a link to buy Safetysuit's albums on Amazon.

What have you been inspired by today?

Texas Boys

This week I decided to revisit (and revamp) one of my most popular blog postings from last year: Texas Boys.

They sure know how to grow 'em in the Lone Star State!
A few examples:

from top to bottom, left to right:
Jensen Ackles, Jessie Pavelka, James Roday,
Colby Donaldson, TJ Thyne, Ben McKenzie and Jared Padalecki

Is it my imagination or do they all look alike in some way or another? Either way, the water's just right in this gene pool!

Can you think of any other Texas Hotties I missed?

Supernatural

In honor of Supernatural's return, I'd like to pay tribute to television's most adorable duo.

Whether they are battling demons, making deals with the devil or just plain old saving the world, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles know how to make it look good, damn good.

Which Winchester brother does it for you? Sam or Dean?

Deadwood

I discovered the show Deadwood for the first time this month. Somehow I missed it when it was originally on the air, but luckily HBO GO allows me to stream shows and movies. I don’t know how I lived without Deadwood before Because. It. Is. Awesome.

I love the concept of a gritty western and the fact that it's on HBO where they don’t have to sensor it, makes it even better.

Oh, and the characters! The entire cast deserves to win every award on the planet. Ian McShane was born to play Al Swearengen. Timothy Olyphant is amazing as always and I love Brad Dourif’s performance as Doc Cochran.

Needless to say, I went ahead and bought the DVD set and the case is absolutely beautiful. It’s probably the nicest box set I’ve ever seen.

When I mentioned that Ian McShane was born to play Al Swearengen, it got me thinking about other actors who seem to have been born to portray specific characters.

A few come to mind:
Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie on Sex and the City
Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday in Tombstone
Alan Alda as Hawkeye on M*A*S*H

Any others you can think of?

My (belated) thoughts about the NHL lockout...

By now, I’ve had plenty of time to let it sink in that there probably won’t be an NHL season this year. I think I've put off writing about it because denial is funny that way.

I like to tell myself it will give me more time to write but we all know that it’s difficult to feel inspired when the one thing that inspires me and my books is wrapped up in a big corporate mess.

The issue is money and whether you blame the players or the owners or the commissioner (we all know how much everyone loves Bettman), someone is being a little too greedy.

One thing is for sure: The fans are getting the short end of the stick. We are the ones shelling out hundreds (yes hundreds) of dollars to watch the sport we love on TV, in person and don’t even get me started on how expensive fan merchandise and parking is.

Hockey already seems to be the most expensive sport to watch and/or play. Out of curiosity, I looked up how much baseball tickets are and couldn’t believe the low prices. Compared to the almost 150 bucks HP Pavilion charges to be near the glass at a Sharks game, the A’s and Giants are practically giving their tickets away!

No matter how irritated I am with the NHL right now, I refuse to switch sports. There just isn’t enough room in my brain for a new set of player names and stats!

I suppose I’m bitter about the whole lockout especially after seeing how much fun the players are having at the meetings. While they joke around, play golf and jet off to Sweden and Russia to play for other leagues, we wait on pins and needles for negotiation news.

I guess there is a brightside to the lockout though. Fans of the other leagues across the world are getting to see Ovechkin, Chara and others play when they normally wouldn’t, so that’s nice for them.

Either way, these playoff re-runs on the NHL Network are starting to lose their luster. A part of me wouldn’t mind seeing the entire season canceled just so we don’t have to hear about it anymore. (Sorry, hockey gods, you know I don't mean that).

For now, I'll try be content with escaping into my fictional world of Red Valley where Razors hockey starts in October when it's supposed to.

Always yours,

What are you doing to fill the void?

I give you...Sean O'Pry

So, I was flipping through the October issue of Glamour magazine and I came across this ad...

His name is Sean O'Pry and he makes me want to buy whatever he is selling!

Over on my Facebook page, I shared some more pictures of this hunky model behind the scenes at the photo shoot. He reminds me of what Dillon, my character from Submersed, would look like if he ever did a fragrance ad.

Anybody know if Spicebomb smells as good as Sean makes it look???

The Killers are back!

The Killers, one of my favorite bands, are making the rounds promoting their new album. Last night they appeared on Letterman and this morning they were on Good Morning America. I have to say I’m glad to see these guys making music again. Battle Born, their first album in four years, is currently on repeat on my iPod and I'm loving it.

The Killers’ first album, Hot Fuss, remains one of my favorite albums of all time. Back in 2004, I easily fell in love with the band’s indie rock sound, Vegas glam style, and use of guyliner. (Their appearance on The O.C. didn’t hurt either!)

Watching them perform again got me thinking about the evolution of lead singer Brandon Flowers’ style over the years. Talent and success aside, you have to admit Brandon is a hottie.

Here are a few of Brandon’s looks, including that weird feathery jacket he wore for an entire tour cycle, the saloon bartender look during Sam’s Town and finally just plain old hunky rock star.

I couldn’t be more happy to see Brandon Flowers rockin’ a leather jacket this time around!

There is one thing I’m sure of: Brandon Flowers, you will always be my Mr. Brightside.

P.S. Be sure to check out Brandon’s solo album Flamingo if you haven’t already :D

How they spent their summer vacation...

So long summer! Autumn is on the way!

This summer I watched a lot of DVD’s, planned a fictitious trip around the world on Pinterest and spent way too much time in the shoe aisle at Kohl’s.

Meanwhile, hockey players jetted around the globe to their home towns and had vacations of their own. Here's a small sampling of how they spent the off-season...

The Kings took turns spending a day with The Cup, golfed and golfed some more...
Dustin Brown and cup handler Mike Bolt
Anze Kopitar and Matthew Perry
Dustin Penner's day with the Cup
Dustin Brown & Bailey
Dustin Brown & his son
Anze Kopitar

The Great Alexander Ovechkin watched his girlfriend Maria Kirilenko play tennis at the Olympics where she won Bronze...

Tyler Seguin got a new dog named Marshall...

...and Jodi Shelley met Hulk Hogan...

I hope you had a great summer and as much fun as "our boys" did.

Here’s to winter, my absolute favorite season. The time of year where I can justify staying in and curling up with a good book or pulling the covers back over my head and sleeping late.

Bring on the Snuggies and hot cocoa!
