So long, farewell...

As 2018 winds down, I can't help but wish for a few more weeks to get some more things done before the new year! But that's not how it works. 2019 will arrive, right on schedule, and we've got to keep moving forward!

So many wonderful things happened this year that I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the highlights. The most memorable thing has to be all the hikes I went on in Lassen VNP. Hiking probably doesn't sound like much of a big deal, but to me it was. Up until this year, I'd never done much (okay, any) hiking. Sure, I'd walked a few trails at a couple different wildlife refuges with a camera hanging around my neck, looking for birds, but I'd never actually hiked. As in 'buy a special pair of shoes for the activity and get down and dirty up in the mountains.'

Taking in the beauty of nature at Shadow Lake

Why the sudden interest? Well, after seeing all the trails listed on Lassen's pamphlet during a summer birdwatching visit, we thought it'd be fun to cross them off one by one. And by the end of the year, we completed 11 of them. It gave me a valuable sense of accomplishment and a feeling that I'm capable of doing anything I set my mind to. I know, I know, it sounds so cliche and like a graphic you'd find somewhere on Pinterest, but it's true!

I've never pushed myself in such a physical way before and finishing some of the more advanced hikes took a heck of a lot of willpower, too. That 13 mile hike around the Twin Lakes Loop (mostly uphill) took every ounce of determination I had.

The Unlikely Hiker strikes again!

In total, we saw 19 lakes, 2 waterfalls and hiked over 40 miles. I can't wait to go back to the park in the spring and see all of the wildflowers blooming!

That's me standing in between two lakes! (Ridge Lakes)

Besides discovering just how tough I really am out in nature, I released a new Razors Ice book, along with two bargain book bundles, visited my very first National Seashore, joined Instagram and started watching MMA. I wish I could put some of those incredible fighters on my book covers! (Here's looking at you, Sage Northcutt, Stipe Miocic, and Gian Villante!)

My goals for 2019 aren't anything too crazy. Hey, I am a couch potato at heart after all. But I would like to see (and film) those Lassen wildflowers and go on a few more travel adventures for Vaughn the Road Again. As for writing, well, I can plan all I want, but I never know for sure where it'll end up taking me. My characters have minds of their own, I tell you! I would like to work on finally writing a Christmas book, completing the paranormal saga I started years ago, finishing a few sequels that have been simmering on the back burner, and maybe reviving the Me series. Frisky Ethan and Lana are nowhere near finished with their sexy escapades! As for the hockey side of things, the Razors Ice series is alive and well and I know just which player is getting his own book. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I hope you made some awesome memories of your own this year, and if you didn't get around to it, then there's always next year! Breaking out of your comfort zone is scary, but it sure gives you something incredible to look back on (and write about!).

How often can you say you stood over a waterfall???
(Mill Creek Falls, Lassen VNP)

As we step out of the past year and into the shiny new one, let's leave negativity behind and remember that we're so much stronger than we give ourselves credit for...

It's about time!

Hi, all! Just wanted to let you know that I'm on Instagram now & ready to take social media by storm! (Not really, just a few raindrops maybe ๐Ÿ˜Š)! It's taken me a while to get with the program, but I've received so much love on my other IG accounts (@vaughntheroadagain and @wingsanddaydreams) that I decided to take the plunge with an author page. Phew! That's probably spreading myself a little too thin, but hey, what can I say? I have too many interests for just one account to handle!

Hope to see you around...

Let's go!

If you've been following my journey as a romance author, you know that I draw a ton of inspiration from nature. Whether it's the wildlife refuge or the coast, I tend to go to a place, soak it all in and it usually ends up somewhere in the pages of my books. Well, I'm thrilled to announce that I've started a new blog where I can post about my travel adventures. Vaughn the Road Again.

Maybe you live on the other side of the country (or the globe!) and will never have the opportunity to visit these places. Maybe you're doing research on them so that you can make the trip someday. Maybe you live nearby and want to know more about the things to do in the area. Either way, I want to share these beautiful locations with you!

Eventually, I'd love to travel around the entire United States (like Sadie in Mama's Ink) and see and experience all that our amazing country has to offer. For now, I'll be travelling to places around the little spot on the map I call home in Northern California. I invite you to follow me on my shiny new Twitter and Instagram accounts and subscribe to my YouTube channel where I'll be posting highlight videos from each destination.

Here's to creating miles of memories!
Rachelle

Let's go on an adventure!

Choose your adventure!

Submerse yourself...

Remember this one?

My name is Olivia Sharpe. I live in glitzy Las Vegas at the top of the Sharpe Hotel and Casino, shut away from the world just the way I like it.

Five years ago, the first and only time I gave myself to a man, something terrible happened. Since then, I’ve remained isolated where no one can hurt me. Recently, in a moment of weakness, of desperate loneliness, I called someone. Some call him gigolo, others call him an escort, rent-boy, or a male prostitute. I call him Dillon.

I had only meant to paint him, to capture his tan muscled physique, those chiseled features, that captivating smile on canvas. However, what started out as one call turned into two, into three…

Then everything changed.

What I did on my summer vacation...

Our visit to the Point Reyes National Seashore has been a long time coming and I'm so excited to show you the photos from our trip!

Out of all the beaches there, Drakes Beach was probably my favorite. It has these beautiful sandstone cliffs and we had the whole beach to ourselves when we arrived in early morning.

Walking along the sand and hearing the waves and birds, and breathing in all that salty air makes me want to set all of my books at the seashore from here on out!

What better place to find inspiration than a deserted stretch of sand?

This is Elephant Seal Overlook near the Chimney Rock Trailhead. Those dark spots in the water are elephant seals!

And this is South Beach. It wasn't quite as windy here and there were only a few other people waaay down the beach the entire time we were there.

The water is this incredible minty color and I probably could have spent all day watching the waves roll in and the birds play chicken with the water.

And this is the Cypress Tree Tunnel. You've probably seen it before on Pinterest or Instagram, as it makes for some amazing photos.

I posted a ton more photos over on my travel blog Vaughn the Road Again, so be sure to check those out if you're interested!

I hope you had a wonderful summer and managed to escape the heat like I did. I can't wait for the temps to get back down into the double digits here in the valley. Somehow, I've managed to locate myself in an area where 95 degrees is "cooling down."

Oh well. Here's to fall and pumpkin spice and cooler weather!
